This extremely rare and unusual Leica Apo-Summicron-M Asph 90mm f2 black M bayonet mount lens is in near mint condition cosmetically, mechanically and optically. Serial #3815774. Serial number dates this lens to 1997 which precedes the official release of the Apo-Summicron-M 90mm f2 lens which wasn't released until the following year. Marked on the barrel of the lens "DESIGNED BY LEICA CAMERA MFD. IN CANADA 11884". This is a rare prototype example manufactured in the Leica Midland, Canada factory before standard production began in Wetzlar, Germany to following year. All production Apo-Summicron-M 90mm lenses are manufactured in Wetzlar, Germany. A very rare preproduction protoype example lens.

Comes with front/rear lens caps and retractible lens hood. Cosmetically near mint; no dings, dents or marks. Barrel is near spotless with few very faint bright marks on the black finish. 9+/10 overall. Mechanically working perfectly; focusing is silky smooth and aperture clicks are crisp. Optically crystal clean and clear; no fog, fungus, separation or scratches.

These lenses are incredibly rare and highly sought after by collectors. Only 12 examples were ever produced! One of these prototype lenses sold recently at the WestLicht auction on Nov 21/15 (Lot #162) for $14400 EUR! In phenomenal condition overall. A very rare prototype example. A must have for any collector or enthusiast.
